Photo Independent Announces Winners of The 2017 International Photobook Awards
Ellen Korth, Claire Felicie, Frank Hamrick, Manca Juvan, Stanislav Briza and Susan Burnstine Were Awarded ‘Best Photobooks’.
Los Angeles, Calif. (April 3, 2017) – Photo Independent announces the winners of the 2017 International Photobook Awards. The competition received photobooks from 16 countries. The winning photobooks were selected by a diverse panel of judges, including:
- Marisa Caichiolo, Curator and Executive Director, Building Bridges Art Exchange
- Chris Davies, Publisher, Fabrik Magazine
- Sarah Hadley, Independent Curator and Founder of the Filter Photo Festival
- Sarah Lee, Curator
- Douglas Stockdale, Photographer, Author/Book Artist, Photobook Reviewer, Curator
The judges selected six books as Best in Show, three self-published/handmade photobooks and three published photobooks.

- Frank Hamrick, USA: Harder Than Writing a Good Haiku

The Best in Show photobooks, as well as the Four Honorable Mentions will be exhibited and available for purchase during Photo Independent, April 21-23, 2017 in Los Angeles, California.
About Photo Independent
Now in its fourth year, Photo Independent is championing a new generation of photographers and photobook publishers and is quickly becoming one of the most significant annual photographic events in the United States. Photo Independent is the only international art fair bridging the gap between those who love and collect photography and the artists who make it.
The 2017 program includes iconic photographer Roger Ballen, who will be a Keynote Speaker, provide a workshop on Fine Art Photography and exhibit works from his many bodies of work, including his latest series The Theatre of Apparitions. Other highlights include Charlotte Cotton, who will also give a Keynote, and 2017 Guggenheim Fellow Ken Gonzales-Day.
Special exhibits include: The Mobile Photography Show, The Lumiere Photography Award Winners and an exhibition featuring Street Photography.
Photobook Independent — a special program and exhibition of international photobooks — will again take place alongside Photo Independent, April 21-23, 2017, and will showcase books from over 40 self-publishers, international publishers and photographic artists.
