Torrie Groening is a passionate print enthusiast. Her involvement in over 25 years of printmaking has included roles as artist, masterprinter/publisher, teacher, gallerist, and collector of works on paper. Returning to Vancouver after a digital decade in California, this purist printmaker has become a master at mixing media. Photography and traditional printmaking meet digital technology in Groening’s hybrid practice. Her studio and home are located in Vancouver’s Strathcona neighbourhood, in a former church. The studio, Vancouver Print Room, hosts occasional exhibitions and tours of the personal collection and invited artists. Her works are included in museum and public collections in Canada and the USA. Out of Studio – a continuing series Staged still life compositions of travel-studios, real and fabricated, reference borrowed and constructed locations and use the artist’s tools and artworks as props in each scene. By staging and creating an impromptu studio as a setting for work.
