James B. Guthrie
Stage 8, Booth 502
James Guthrie received his first camera at a young age, the same year he decided to become an architect. Since then he has been perfecting and expanding the commonalities of these arts in unison. With formal photography and darkroom training beginning in high school, it continued in parallel with fine art and architectural education during both bachelor’s and master’s programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As both an art photographer and an architect, James maintains a deep interest in how buildings, nature and people interact, energize and inform each other. He views the creative processes of architecture and photography as complimentary efforts in that they come from different ends of the creative process but find their nexus at the point of documentation.
